Court Sentence Nigerian Player To Prison For Sexual Assault In Denmark
Nigerian and FC Copenhagen winger, Akinwunmi Amoo has been sentenced to a one-year prison for sexual assault in Denmark.
The 21-year-old former Harmarby star was sentenced on Friday. However, the Nigerian will appeal the sentence.
Following the sentencing, Ekstra Bladet – a Danish newspaper said: “This is the outcome of the trial, which has been going on for most of June, where a top player in Danish football has been charged with rape in a sexual relationship other than intercourse, as well as attempted rape and violations of two more women.
“It happens after he was found guilty of all three charges in the Copenhagen District Court by a dissenting magistrate on Friday afternoon, and it was a shaken man who received his sentence as he stood there in the middle of the room and listened to the outcome.
“An unconditional prison sentence for one year.”
Amoo was initially arrested on September 10 2022 and was released on bail a month later.
The criminal charges against the forward were laid by Danish authorities in April, July, and August 2022.
Amoo joined FC Copenhagen in January 2022 from Swedish side Hammarby for €4.4m.
He made only two league appearances for the Danish outfit last season.
