There was a knife attack in Annecy
on Thursday. A man stabbed
children and several adults. In a
video of the attack, which BEMTV
was able to watch, we see a man
with a backpack making multiple
attempts to intervene against the
attackers.

He was armed with a knife and was
obviously looking for new potential
victims. The TF1 video above shows
the first gruesome images of the
alleged attacker. We saw a man with
a backpack trying to control him,
and we decided not to show you the
rest of the scene. The suspect was
then chased by two men who tried
to arrest him. He would then be
caught by several police officers
who would end up detaining the
man, a 31-year-old Syrian refugee,
suspected of having stabbed
several people, mostly young
children.

It’s 10 a.m. and the attack took
place fifteen minutes ago.
Firefighters, SAMU and law
enforcement are on site. The attack
had just taken place in the center of
Annecy on the Paquier, a vast
esplanade which borders the lake.
“l just saw a group of people and
parents, a child or two, then the
police came. They all surrounded a
small child, then whenl approached
I saw him covered in blood” testified
a People cyclist. on location.

Several children had just been
stabbed. The owner of a brewery
was reached by telephone and his
waitress alerted him. “She said to
me: l have just crossed the Paquel
River, there were bodies on the
ground, the mother was screaming,
the children were motionless, I think
I heard a shot”, he says. The
attacker was subdued by agents
from the Annecy police station and
he is currently in custody for
attempted murder. One of the
witnesses to the play was a regular
at the park and the suspect had
been spotted days before. “Ive been
seeing him for twO or three days,
he’s been near the playpen. He’s
been sitting, he’s not moving, he’s
been sitting near the playpen for a
few days” the young man said.
Two adults and four children were
injured. The youngest is only 22
months old. Immediately, anxious
parents come runnina, just like the
mother who was looking for her
child impatiently this morning.

Prime Minister Elizabeth Byrne is
expected to be on the scene at all
times.
