A GoFundMe campaign launched by a family member of the 22-year-old on Thanksgiving to help pay for the family’s funeral and memorial services had raised more than $13,000 as of early Friday afternoon.

Tori is from Pekin, IL and is survived by her mother, Tricia, father, Tad, and sisters, Christy and Olivia. “If you knew Patrick, you know what a great young man he was and the impact he had on so many people during his short time here,” the GoFundMe page reads. At Ambrose, the 1.80-meter center studied psychology and played basketball, “a sport very close to his heart.”

“I invite the entire community to join me in sending thoughts and prayers to Patrick’s parents, Tad and Tricia Tory, and all those affected by this loss,” Novak wrote. “May God embrace Patrick. and his family, giving them comfort and peace during this difficult time.

“I sincerely thank our student services team for communicating with students about the resources and counseling services available on campus. More information about the campus memorial and celebration of Patrick’s life will be announced in the coming weeks.”

Tori’s cause of death has not been released.

“No one is more grateful and appreciative of the opportunities he received as a student-athlete at St. Ambrose,” the SAU men’s basketball team posted on Tory’s social media on Thanksgiving Day.

“Every day after practice, he would thank his coaches and give him a fist bump,” the team said, urging people to donate to GoFundMe. “We know most of his teachers have said the same thing about his gratitude.”
