BREAKING: NLC Suspends Planned Nationwide Strike Over Fuel Subsidy


The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its Wednesday’s planned Nationwide strike action over the removal of fuel subsidy.

The union has threatened to go on strike if the federal government refuses to return the fuel price to 196 naira, with several units of the body already issued a memo to mobilize members ahead of the industrial strike action.

According to reports from Sahara reporters, there was a dramatic twist as the labour union announced the suspension of the planned strike the NLC, led by its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, held a meeting at the Presidential Villa at about 5:45 pm on Monday.

At the end of the meeting as reported, NLC announced that some measures had been put in place and an agreement was reached for the strike not to go on as planned.

Consequently, the parties agreed as follows:

“The NLC to suspend the strike forthwith to enable further consultation. The Labour Centres and the Federal Government to meet on June 19 to agree on an implementation framework,” a new communique issued by the NLC partly read.
