In a recent match, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr team was upset by rival Al-Hilal thanks to two penalties from Odion Ighalo, who helped the opponents win 2-0.

In the 75th minute, Ronaldo managed to score a goal, but it was contentiously called offside. However, Ronaldo’s WWE-style challenge, which resulted in a booking, was the game’s main talking point.

Without intending to play the ball in the air, the former Manchester United player pounced onto his opponent, wrapped his right arm around his neck, and wrestled him to the ground.

It is unclear whether this was due to an earlier clash between the players during the match, either verbally or physically. Rio Ferdinand recently talked about his former clubmate Ronaldo in an interview, admitting that he used to “bully” him while they were both at Manchester United, in a bid to toughen him up for the physicality of the English top-flight.

He explained how he and South African Quinton Fortune used to play with Ronaldo every other day before training as part of the warm-up. Ferdinand revealed that he used to “smash” Ronaldo all over the place, but the Portuguese player’s hatred for losing meant he was almost left in tears.

Overall, Ronaldo’s WWE-style move wasn’t enough to change the game’s outcome, and Al-Hilal took the victory. The incident is a reminder that provoking the Portuguese superstar on the pitch is never a wise idea, and he has the history and reputation to back that up.
