Germany Legend, Lothar Matthaus Acquires Ghana League Football Club, Accra Lions

German Football Legend, Lothar Mattaus has acquired a share at a Ghanaian football league side, Accra Lions FC.

This development was announced in a statement released by the Ghanaian League outfit to join two other shareholders in piloting the affairs of the club to success.

“We are proud to announce that former German international, World Cup Winner and FIFA World Player of the Year, Lothar Matthäus has joined Accra Lions Football Club as board member and shareholder”. The statement reads.

Matthäus, a distinguished figure in world football as the ex-captain of Germany and 1990 World Cup winner, expressed his excitement about this new venture.

“Ghana has always had a huge potential of talent and I’m thrilled by the idea of supporting the sportive development of young footballers with my knowledge and experience.” He said.

Accra Lions Football Club, now under the ownership of Matthäus, the Ghanaian professional footballer Frank Opoku Acheampong (Shenzhen FC – China) and the club’s chairman Oliver König, aspire to tap into Ghana’s football potential and become a driving force in player development.

The investment will particularly emphasise bolstering the training infrastructure to ensure the players receive excellent preparation.

The legendary Matthaus is the first recipient of the FIFA World Player of the Year in 1990.
