Jubilee Review: Aditi Rao Hydari, Prosenjit, Aparshakti Starrer Is Vikramaditya Motwane’s Poetic Ode To Cinema’s Golden Era
Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and created by Soumik Sen and Vikramaditya Motwane, Jubilee is produced by Andolan Films in association with Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Studios. The show boasts of an amazing cast featuring Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparshakti Khurana, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sidhant Gupta, Nandish Sandhu, and Ram Kapoor.

Jubilee Review: Storyline
The show introduces us to the captivating world of Jubilee and takes us down the golden age of Indian cinema. Set against the backdrop of the Golden Era of Bollywood, Jubilee is a layered drama that chronicles the lives of a studio boss, his movie-star wife, a trusted aide, a rising star, a nautch girl and a refugee and the gambles they’re willing to take in pursuit of their dreams, passion, ambition and love.

We watched the first 5 episodes, and the remaining episodes will follow a week later on April 14. However, every single episode is beautifully crafted to narrate a tale from a beautiful time and there’s no denying that the it is poetic in more ways than one. There’s an absolute regal look and feel that the show boasts of and it make for a lovely watch.

Jubilee Review: Director
Vikramaditya Motwane has a way with not just the camera, but also how creatively he displays his storytelling skills as well. His camera, almost speaks to you, and he successfully takes us back to a time we’ve only heard stories of. He has managed to add songs, added a tinge of the partition drama, and of course, while at it, he has also managed to weave a story that keeps the viewers hooked and how. There are details that you will catch right on your first watch and there will be more that might get your attention the second time as well – a forever beautiful thing about the director’s filmography.

Aditi Rao is able to showcase Sumitra’s vulnerability rather well, and it is the direction that only further makes her character come off rather well. She loves period dramas, and in all the diverse roles, she fits just as well. Aparshakti, as Binod, is a revelation, we’d say. You meet him in person, you see his filmography, and it is almost hard to believe how effortlessly his character comes to him.

Wamiqa as Nillofer is an equally stunning performer, her dance performance, meanwhile, is also another highlight that stays through. Sidhant Gupta’s Jay Khanna is also a character you love, the character arc of whom you are definitely looking forward to. He has definitely done really well, and to see more of him in the remaining episodes would be absolute fun.

Prosenjit Chatterjee is the unlikeable studio boss, and yet, you barely get to hating him. Probably that’s the thing about such amazing actors, isn’t it? Ram Kapoor, the financer, is also a treat, and it is visible how much he is enjoying his role, but we don’t see enough of him just yet. Nandish, who we also don’t get to see a lot of in the first 5 episodes, shines for the sheer fact that he has picked up something so different.

Jubilee Review: Music
The series has a total of 12 songs, but we’ve just heard a few yet, and Amit Trivedi is a magician, something there’s no doubt about. Be it Wamiqa’s mind blowing performance or the simple background score that gets us talking and also, vibing to the show at every single point. Babuji Bhole Bhaale is so far, one of my favourite tracks, and Sunidhi Chauhan sings it impeccably well.

Jubilee Review: Conclusion
If you are looking to watch a show that speaks to the cinema lover inside you, then this show is a definitely must watch. Jubilee is everything that we love to watch and while it does focus on its story, does not compromise on performances, or any other aspect, it is still bingeworthy.
