The man, named Oyiga Micheal, shared that students at Merit International School are asked to bring in five plastic bottles every day for recycling purposes as payment for their tuition. He has called for financial assistance on behalf of the school and its students.
Due to the financial struggles of the students’ families, the school has resorted to this unique payment method to ensure that children have access to education. This discovery sheds light on the ongoing issue of poverty and lack of access to education in Nigeria.
Oyiga asked well-meaning individuals to support with books, writing materials, socks, and other necessary school items.
He shared photos of the school kids and wrote; “I know we are busy with elections and all, but alright I’ll need your attention. I Visited this school at Ajegunle Yesterday Morit International, where the students Pay their Fees with Plastic bottles. The students are tasked to bring 5 bottles a day to cover for school fees.
The Initiative is amazing as most parents in the area can’t afford to send their kids to school but with this means, they can send all their kids to school for basic primary education.
Make we Help out, takes an entire Village to raise a kid. Believe we can do something. If you know organizations that can help also, buzz me.. Even if you no fit help, help me Retweet. Let’s do this. Text books.. Pencil.. Note Books.. Biro pen.. Colouring books.. Drawing paper.. Any educational material that can help at least one kid.”
Therefore in a means to assist this parents and take the pressure a little from them, if you can help with Books, Pens, Bags and socks.. Please reach out..
Or if you can get them, I'll come pick them up and hand them over. Or you can go to the school to drop them yourself. pic.twitter.com/7EnunK1y3d— Oyiga Micheal (@Nsukka_okpa) March 8, 2023
