The senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Orji Uzor Kalu has lamented the scarcity of the new currency, saying his family members are already suffering from the Naira crunch, blaming President Muhammadu Buhari’s disobedience to the Supreme Court’s order restraining his regime from making the old N500 and N1,000 banknotes illegal.

“…if I am in the position of Mr President, as I have told you before, I will listen to the Supreme Court judgment,” the ex-Abia governor told Channels TV in an interview. “The Supreme Court, to me, whether they are right or wrong, Mr President, should obey the law and ask his Attorney General to put a review to the Supreme Court.”

He added that the policy was “ill-timed,” noting that he was already suffering due to the inability to access funds for his family.

“You can see the policy is right, but I don’t keep money in my house. I am suffering,” Mr Kalu stressed.

He complained that he used to have enough food at home and cash to give to people but could no longer do that.

“The other day, my house manager told my wife in Abuja that we have no money to cook food. My wife was virtually roaming around, and we feed over 250 people every day. It is a problem to me and everybody,” Mr Kalu said.
