Newborn daughter of American family is their first girl in 138 years
When a baby girl was born in Michigan, USA, last month, it was nothing short of historic! Carolyn and Andrew Clark brought baby Audrey into this world on March 17 — marking the birth of the first daughter in their family in 138 long years. Not a single newborn in the US family had been a girl since 1885.
After all, Carolyn and Andrew Clark’s birth of baby Audrey on March 17 was the first female to be born in their family in 138 years.
The newborn’s mother revealed in an interview with Good Morning America that she first became aware of the family’s unusual chromosomal heritage while dating her future husband. She wasn’t completely convinced, though, until his parents confirmed that the Clarks ‘hadn’t had a girl in our direct line’ since 1885.
“I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s a 50-50 chance every time. What do you mean?’” Carolyn recalled asking Andrew. “He goes, ‘No, legitimately, we have not had a girl in our direct line in over 100 years.’”
Last September, when the Clarks gathered to celebrate their pregnancy and sex reveal, it was nothing short of historic.
“We kept it a secret to ourselves as well,” Andrew told GMA. “So I just assumed it was going to be blue in the center of the cookies and it’d be another boy in the lineage.”
He recalled being “shocked” when he noticed the centre of the cookies was actually pink.
As for Carolyn, the birth of a daughter in the family after 14 decades only topped off the joy of welcoming her newborn — following a miscarriage in January 2021.
“It was just icing on the cake that it was a girl,” she said, noting that she just wanted the baby to be happy regardless of their sex when she first learned about her pregnancy.
