Sheikh Gumi said, “Terrorists need money from kidnapping to finance their war machines.”

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic cleric, has provoked outrage online for statements he made about terrorism and kidnapping amid increased insecurity in Nigeria.

The cleric said during an interview with AIT, when he discussed how terrorist groups supposedly sustain financially despite rising military pressure from the government.

“The terrorists need all the money they’re getting from kidnapping. It’s not like they are living luxurious lives,” Gumi said.

  • According to Sheikh Gumi, the government’s intensified operations against terrorist groups have allegedly forced them to seek more funds to sustain themselves and continue their activities.

His statement has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians sharing mixed opinions about his comments on insecurity and terrorism facing the country.

“The government is putting too much pressure on them, so they need money to finance their war machines. If they leave banditry, they won’t have any source of financing themselves,” he added.

The comments continue to trend online as conversations around insecurity, terrorism, and kidnapping remain major concerns across Nigeria.
