Super Falcons of Nigeria have crashed out of the 2023 Women’s World Cup after losing 4-2 on penalties to the Lionesses of England.

The Randy Waldrum’s led side put in a spirited perfomance against their European counterparts in an entertaining end to end encounter, but were undone with awful spotkicks that ensued after 120 minutes of football in Brisbane.

England were awarded a penalty just past the hour mark after Rasheedat Ajibade bumped Daly in the back. However, referee Melissa Borjas cancelled her decision after a lengty review by the VAR.

Super falcons have only scored three goals in the tournament so far and came into the game as underdogs, but couldn’t make their numerical advantage count after lauren james was sent off after stamping on Michelle Allozie.

With the game headed to penalty shoot-out after the 120 minute stalemate, Nigeria Missed her first two spotkicks Substitute Desire Oparanozie firing wide before Michelle Allozie Skied the second.

Alex Greenwood sent Nnadozie the wrong way for England’s fourth and Ucheibe dispatched for Nigeria.
