Onyeka Onwenu, The Famous singer dies after collapsing on stage
Initial reports indicate that Onyeka was singing at a birthday party on Tuesday night when she suddenly collapsed. She was rushed to Reddington Hospital in Lekki, Lagos, where she sadly passed away.
The exact cause of his death has not yet been confirmed, and his family has chosen not to comment.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, along with other public figures, expressed their condolences on social media, highlighting Onyeka’s impact and legacy in music and the fight for human rights.
Kelex Ofoedu, the official photographer to the Abia State Governor, who was present at the birthday party, shared the latest photos of Onyeka Onwenu on stage.
“Who would have thought she would have left after I took these pictures of her last night? She sang so well, was fun and made everyone so happy with her performance,” Ofoedu commented on her social media.
Who was Onyeka Onwenu
Born on January 31, 1952 in Nigeria, Onyeka Onwenu had a distinguished career not only in music but also as an actress, social activist, journalist and politician. She was the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and in 2013 was appointed Executive Director of the National Centre for Women Development.
She began her acting career in 1999 with the film “Not Your Wealth”, and has appeared in approximately 15 film projects.
Onyeka leaves behind an impressive legacy and is remembered not only for her artistic talent but also for her dedication to promoting human rights. She is the mother of two children who have maintained a life away from the media.
