Home Minister Rana Sanaullah said
on Tuesday that PTI leader Imran
Khan will be tried in a military court
for the incident on May 9, when
violence erupted after his arrest ano
military facilities were attacked.

At least eight people were killed an
as many as 290 were injured when
an accountability court in Islamaba
handed over custody of Imran to
Bank Negara on May 9, as more
than 1,900 angry protesters met
with protesters across the country

Protesters also stormed the
regiment commander’s compound
in Lahore – also known as Jinnah
House – and knocked down a gate
at Rawalpindi’s headquarters.
The unrest sparked a strong
response from the government and
military, promising action against
the perpetrators, leading to an
ongoing crackdown on those involved.

Live with Adil Shahzeb, Sanaullah
accused Imran of personally
planning the attack on the military
facility before he was arrested that
day, adding that there was also
evidence to support that claim.
Asked if Imran would face a court-
martial, Sanaullah replied: “Of
course, why wouldn’t he?” As far as
know, his plans to target military
installations and then implement
them are absolutely A court martial
case.

The interior minister accused the
PTI chief of personally orchestrating
the May 9 riots. “They (PTI
supporters) were chanting the
slogan Imran Khan is our red line’
and the planning and preparations
were done at the initiative and
impetus of Imran Khan. He is the
initiator of all these discords” He
added, adding that there was also
evidence to support the allegation.
“The evidence] is on the record, it’s
in tweets and his messages”‘ he
added. Asked how Imran
communicated with his party
leaders in prison, the interior
minister replied: “Al these [plans] were decided before he went [in
prison]: Who will be where? What is
the office doing?” If he were
arrested, what would be his strategy
and his responsibilities? Everything
is decided ”

The home minister also ruled out
talks with PTI. Sanaullah’s
comments came a day after
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said
no decision had been made on
Imran’s trial under the Army Act, but
added that he could not “rule out”
that possibility.

“I don’t rule out the possibility that
he was the planner and knew
everything” Asif said.
