Sherwin-Williams Garland Plant Explosion: How Many People Were Injured?
On August 7, 2023, an explosion and subsequent fire occurred at the Sherwin-Williams paint plant in Garland, Texas.
The incident caused significant damage and resulted in one person being injured.
The explosion took place at the Sherwin-Williams paint plant in Garland, which is located east of Dallas, Texas.
The exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation. The explosion led to a large fire that engulfed the paint plant.
The fire caused extensive damage to the facility and required the response of multiple firefighting crews.
Emergency crews, including firefighters, responded to the scene to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
The fire was eventually brought under control within a few hours.
The explosion and fire caused significant disruption, with nearby homes being rattled and residents being evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The Sherwin-Williams paint plant was also temporarily shut down following the incident.
The investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing, and further details may emerge as more information becomes available.
According to Fox News, one person was injured in the Sherwin-Williams paint plant explosion in Garland, Texas.
CNN reported that firefighters received a call at 1:21 AM Monday, according to a Garland Fire Department public information officer.
The fire alarm level was later upgraded to direct more resources toward putting it out, according to the department.
Sherwin-Williams said in a statement the fire was extinguished within a few hours.
“One employee suffered a minor injury and was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution and has since been released,” said Julie Young, the company’s vice president of global corporate communications.
Production at the site has been suspended, she added, and an environmental assessment will be conducted when fire officials allow access to the site.
“We want to thank the first responders for assisting us and we will continue to work with the authorities as we complete our assessment,” Young said.
A cause of the fire has not been determined, and the department said while its investigation hasn’t begun, it will continue to monitor the scene due to the chemicals in the factory.
The fire department stated that a strong chemical was released due to the fire, which made people feel like a paint-like smell had captured the area around them.
Jim Norris, a resident who lives near the factory, claimed that the residents have been wearing masks so that they didn’t inhale the fumes from the fire.
“I heard a loud boom, followed by multiple loud booms. I lost count at over 15. And big bellows of smoke from fireballs rising from the plant. Just right here at the corner you could feel the heat from the fire,” he said.
