A tragic shooting at Bayview Park this morning has left two people dead, prompting a significant police response and a warning for residents to avoid the area.

York Regional Police (YRP) responded to reports of gunfire around 7:28 a.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, officers located two adults suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities quickly established a perimeter around the park, which is situated between two residential subdivisions in Keswick, located just over 50 kilometers north of Toronto. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the YRP characterized the incident as “isolated” and assured the public that there was no ongoing threat.

“Residents should remain calm as this is an isolated incident. We are working diligently to gather more information,” said YRP Media Officer Kevin Nebrija, who is expected to provide further updates at a press briefing later this afternoon.

As a precautionary measure, schools in the vicinity have been placed on “Hold and Secure,” meaning that outdoor activities are suspended, and access to the school buildings is limited. Parents received notifications about the lockdown, prompting heightened concern in the community.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, and a neighbor indicated they observed the immediate aftermath of the shooting. However, details about the victims have not yet been released, and police are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything related to the incident to come forward.

As investigators continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews, police have set up a perimeter stretching from Dovedale Drive to the south, Bayview Avenue/The Queensway to the northwest, and Fairwood Drive to the east.
