Stars of The Night Caller Sean Pertwee breaks his heart commitment to his son following the death of his other twin

The Night Caller star Sean Pertwee was left devastated after one of his twin sons tragically died just four days after birth, with the other surviving against all odds

The actor has opened up about the loss of his son and the vow he made that day
Sean Pertwee, the 60-year-old actor known for his role in the Channel 5 drama “The Night Caller,” has shared the poignant vow he made to his son Alfred after the devastating loss of Alfred’s twin brother. The twins were born prematurely at just 25 weeks back in 2001.

While Alfred, affectionately called Freddy, survived after being in a coma for over three months, his twin brother Gilbert sadly passed away four days after being born.

Opening up about the harrowing experience with the Guardian, Sean recounted the premature birth of his sons with wife Jacqueline Hamilton-Smith, daughter of the British peer Anthony Hamilton-Smith. He expressed the deep sorrow they felt losing Gilbert but also the miraculous survival of Freddy.

Reflecting on the promise he made to his surviving son, Sean said: “My wife, Jacqui, gave birth to our twin boys in 2001 and we lost one. We lost Gilbert while Alfred (Freddy) survived, which was a miracle because they were born prematurely at 25 weeks.”

“Gilbert lived only four days and Freddy survived after being in a coma for three-and-a-half months. When Freddy pulled through I made a pledge that I would always be proud of him, always be by his side. Whatever decision he takes in life, I’ll support him to the best of my ability.”

He also spoke of Freddy’s unique presence, suggesting an old soul within his young son: “I don’t know whether it’s because he’s got his brother on his shoulder with him, but he’s got this extraordinary calmness, which is something I never had”, reports Birmingham Live.

Sean is famous for a raft of gripping roles like the tough Sgt. Wells in ‘Dog Soldiers’, the intriguing W. F. “Smitty” Smith in ‘Event Horizon’, not to mention playing Inspector Lestrade in ‘Elementary’ on CBS and transforming into Alfred Pennyworth for Fox’s ‘Gotham’.

Foodies might recognise his dulcet tones too – he’s been dishing out commentary as the voice behind ‘MasterChef: The Professionals’ and serving up dramatic intros on ‘Zero Hour’.

But performance prowess runs in Sean’s veins. He’s got an impressive lineage with his father being none other than Jon Pertwee, the iconic actor who brought the Third Doctor to life on Doctor Who.

And the talent doesn’t stop there; his sister Dariel Pertwee graces the screen too, renowned for her appearances in ‘Wives and Daughters’, ‘The Buddha of Suburbia’, and ‘Silent Witness’.
