The Current Monthly Retirement Allowance Of #350K, #250k Is Not Enough For Ex-Presidents & VPs - Osinbajo

Yemi Osinbajo
Outgoing Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said the current monthly allowance benefits of #350,000 and #250,000 for Ex-presidents and VPs respectively not enough to sustain after leaving office.

Prof Osinbajo made the call for an increment on Wednesday during his remarks at the valedictory session of the Federal Executive Council at the State House, Abuja, saying there should be an upward review of the monthly retirement benefits of former presidents and vice presidents.

“Your personal integrity is known all over Nigeria and indeed all over the world. And I do not think anyone, including even your worst enemies, will not admit that you are an incredibly honest person”. Osinbajo said to President Buhari.

“Part of the problem with that is that sometimes, you and I end up getting the very short end of the stick.

If you look at the laws today, our retirement benefits, yours (Buhari) will be N350,000 a month by law and mine will be N250,000 per month. Those, of course, as you can imagine are very tiny amounts of money.

“And I think that one of the things that we must do is to, perhaps, see how we can amend that law so that I will not come to you in Daura and ask for some of your bulls to sell in order to survive.”
