Owner of the Mavin Record Label Don Jazzy has provided an explanation for why he declined to sign artistes with the caliber of Davido and Wizkid while his career was at its peak.

In his most recent interview, he expressed remorse over not signing Simi when he had the chance, and he also spoke about another singer he nearly signed, Falz, and what transpired to him.

When asked about the reasons why he did not sign artists such as Wizkid and Davido, he said that it was just a “coincidence.”

In reference to Wizkid, he explained that he had the chance to sign the Afrobeat Giant, but he lost out to the EME Boss, Banky W, who saw his brilliance and signed him instead.

He continued by saying that he had the option to sign Davido as well, but he decided against it because he believed the singer would be successful enough on his own without a record label agreement.

His words:

“I like Simi, I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni, but I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I had the opportunity of signing Davido but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine.”

“Wizkid, obviously, I couldn’t because Banky W got to him first. That would have been amazing. Falz, I love his work. We almost had a deal.”
