This African mother is the “most fertile woman” in the world, having given birth to 44 children by the time she was 40
Mariam Nabatanzi, considered the most fertile woman in the world, gave birth to 44 children by the age of 40. She was married off at the age of 12.
In Uganda, East Africa, the woman is referred to as Mama Uganda by her people. After being married off at the age of 12, Nabatanzi’s birth-giving odyssey began. She had been sold by her parents, and a year later she gave birth to a child.
When Nabatanzi went to the doctor, the medical staff informed her that she had hyperovulation because of her abnormally large ovaries. The physicians told her that because birth control tablets would seriously harm her health, she should never use them.
Additionally, it was found that Nabatanzi’s fertility is hereditary. “Her case is a genetic predisposition to hyper-ovulate — releasing multiple eggs in one cycle — which significantly increases the chances of having multiple births,” said Dr Charles Kiggundu, a gynaecologist at Mulago Hospital in Kamala.
Further, the woman was informed that she had to keep giving birth to reduce her fertility. At present, the woman has four sets of twins, five sets of triplets and five sets of quadruplets. There was only once she gave birth to a single child.
Though she gave birth to 44, the mother lost 6 of her kids, leaving her with 20 boys and 18 girls. Unfortunately, Nabatanzi is a single mother as her husband abandoned the massive family after taking their money.
