Trapped in debt, the Trenggalek man took the iPhone 14 away when COD

Members of the Kuta Police have arrested the thief Iphone 14 Pro Max. The perpetrator is known to be named Imam Muarifin from Trenggalek, East Java. Imam admitted that he was desperate to steal because he was in debt with an online loan (pinjol).

The Head of Kuta Police, Kompol Yogie Pramagita, said that the incident occurred on Saturday (4/3/2023). Initially, at around 23.00 WITA, a victim named Novi Aulia Fransiska from Toko Aimudin received a chat from Imam to buy an Iphone 14 Pro Max.

In a chat via cellphone, Imam also agreed on a price of IDR 29.5 million and the iPhone would be delivered the next morning.

On Sunday (5/3/2023) at around 12.10 WITA Novi came to the Ohana Kuta Hotel to deliver the Iphone ordered by Imam. Novie handed over her cell phone without receiving payment from Imam.

“The reported said he would take the money to his room. However, after waiting for about two hours, the reported party did not return,” Yogie explained during his release at the Kuta Police Headquarters, Thursday (30/3/2023).

After waiting and finally feeling like she was a victim of a crime, Novie reported it to the Kuta Police. The police who received the report then conducted an investigation, including checking CCTV.

The police finally received information that Imam was at a pawnshop, Jalan Teuku Umar, Denpasar. He was arrested there on Saturday (24/3/2023).

Imam admitted that he stole the victim’s cell phone and pawned Rp. 17,200,000. To the police, Imam said that he only received a mortgage of Rp. 15 million due to administrative deductions of Rp. 2.2 million.

“It’s used up for daily needs,” said the police chief.

Now Imam is huddled behind bars at the Kuta Police. He was charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code or Article 372 of the Criminal Code. The maximum penalty is four years in prison.

Meanwhile, Imam admitted that he was desperate to steal because he was in debt.

“I am in debt online loan (pinjol) Rp. 3 million, I also have personal debt,” said the suspect Muarifin, looking down.
