Two Officers Killed As Gunmen Attacks Police Checkpoint In Enugu


Two officers of the Nigerian police force have been killed as unknown gunmen attacked a checkpoint in Enugu State.

According to reports, the incident happened on Sunday, March 26, 2023, around 11:30 am.

The deceased were Operatives serving in the Uwani Police Division of Enugu State Command. They were on routine stop and search duty at Osadebe Street, along Campus Gate Road, by Kenyatta Market Enugu before the disaster struck.

The armed hoodlums in their numbers and operating in SUVs suddenly opened fire on them.

“Many of the hoodlums escaped with varying degrees of fatal gunshot injuries in the ensuing gun duel, while two of the Operatives, who sustained severe gunshot injuries, were moved to the hospital. They were confirmed dead and their corpses deposited in the mortuary for preservation”. Said DSP Daniel Ndukwe,
Police Public Relations Officer in the state.

He also urges citizens of the State and the general public to assist the Command with useful information that will aid the speedy arrest of the suspects.

The PRO also called on the owners of medical facilities to report any person, dead or alive, sighted with gunshot injuries to the Police.
