University Of Ibadan Student Arrested For Allegedly Raping Colleague

A 200-level student from the Faculty of Law at the University of Ibadan has been apprehended by campus security personnel for allegedly raping a 100-level colleague within the university premises.

Campus security officers in Ibadan have detained a 200-level student from the University of Ibadan’s Faculty of Law on suspicion of raping a 100-level colleague on university property.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the incident was reported to the institution’s authorities.

The victim, a fresher, had gone to a night class with other students for exam preparation when she moved to the Students’ Union building due to a power outage.

Allegedly, it was there that the suspect assaulted her. The victim recounted that she woke to a touch, attempted to scream, but was subdued by the suspect who held her down, making her unable to call for help.

Fortunately, the assault was interrupted when another student entered, causing the suspect to flee. The victim suffered injuries to her neck, lips (due to a bite), and her private area.

Confirming the incident, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, affirmed that investigations into the matter were underway.
