WATCH: Charlotte Dujardin video leaked, withdraws from the 2024 Olympics
Dujardin, a three-time Olympic champion and one of the stars of Team GB, was aiming to become the most decorated British female athlete at this summer’s Games in Paris.
Dujardin has said she feels “deeply ashamed” and said the incident “was completely atypical and does not reflect how I train my horses or how I instruct my students”.
She has now withdrawn from all competitions while the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) carries out the investigation.
The nature of the FEI investigation is unclear and the content of the video in question, which has resurfaced just days before the start of the Olympics, is still unknown.
A statement issued on Tuesday said: “A video has emerged from four years ago showing me making an error of judgement during a training session.
“Understandably, the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) is investigating and I have taken the decision to withdraw from all competitions, including the Paris Olympics, while this process takes place.
“What occurred was completely atypical and does not reflect how I train my horses or instruct my students, however, there is no excuse. I am deeply ashamed and should have set a better example at the time.
“I am sincerely sorry for my actions and devastated that I have let everyone down, including the British team, fans and sponsors.
“I will fully co-operate with the FEI, the British Equestrian Federation and British Dressage during their investigations, and will not comment further until the process is complete.”
