Nearly 700 homicides in Honduras
The Ministry of Security reports nearly 700 homicides nationwide so far this year, the majority of the victims being men.
Drivers killed in 2025
In 2025, Honduras recorded the murder of at least 28 transport workers nationwide. The victims were primarily drivers of buses, minibuses, and taxis operating on urban and interurban routes.
Transport leaders attribute this wave of crimes to criminal structures dedicated to extortion, which force drivers to pay “war taxes” under threats.
When victims refuse to comply with these demands, the risks of attacks, disappearances, or murders increase.
