The dead are asleep as a conflict erupted between the Fulani and the Iganna people in Oyo State.
At least ten different people, including a pregnant woman, have met with sudden death in a Fulani camp in the past week in Iganna, Oyo state.

The exact cause of the attack is yet to be determined by anyone at the time of filing this report.

BBC Yoruba spoke to some of the Fulanis living in the camp, the information they gave was that there were only a few people at home when the incident happened on Eti Day, because many of them had already left for work.

When they returned that day, they found the corpse of a dead person and also set fire to the houses they were living in.

Although the Oyo state police station has not yet responded or issued any press release on this incident, Governor Sheyi Makinde acknowledged the incident on Sunday, and appealed to the residents of the area to allow peace.

Makinde called on the Fulanis to surrender and not plan to take revenge.

He said his government will not allow anyone to take the law into their own hands.

A press release issued by the press secretary for the Governor, Brother Taiwo Adisa indicated how Makinde assured the people that the government will provide basic facilities so that the benefit of the government can spread to their areas.

He also praised the security guards for their quick response to the incident.

Makinde appealed to the residents of the town to accept peace and stop violence.

He added that the government will conduct an investigation on the incident, and will do justice.

Makinde said, “If anything happens, inform the police and let them do their job.

That’s the real problem here. They attack someone, but before the law enforcement hears, you have taken steps to retaliate.

This kind of thing must stop because there is no place for such things in Oyo state.”


In his speech, Sabiganna of Iganna town, Oba Azeez Oyemonla Soliu praised Governor Makinde and the law enforcement officers for the work they did, with the explanation that the incident was something to be concerned about.

He called on the residents of Iganna to allow peace and good relations between citizens and visitors.

The spokesman for the Fulani community in the area, Seriki Mahmud Yusuf, who is the Fulani Youth Seriki in the Oyo Division, explained that their community loves peace, and they will not violate the law.

He said the conflict is something that no one needs.
