We Have Become Slaves In Our Own Country - Nigerians Lament As Prolonged Queues Persist In Banks

Nigerian citizens on Friday 10th February 2023, Cried out that they have become a slave in their own country due to the unending queue for withdrawal at banks.

In a tour around banks in Ibadan, our correspondent gathered that banks now issue numbers and tallies to customers to manage the long queue.

This movement isn’t favourable to certain people, particularly the old, physically challenged, and pregnant women.

Also, some people are giving numbers and in the end, it won’t reach their turn until the bank close for the day. This has led to frustrations among citizens and some can barely feed as a result.

A trader, who spoke on condition of anonymity to our correspondent said this scarcity of naira has affected his life and business negatively. “I came here around 7 am with the hope of making a cash withdrawal. The security guard gave me number 347 as I wait in line. Unfortunately, I did not reach my turn till the bank announced its closure for the day. He lamented.

A nursing mother, Mrs adio broke into tears while trying to express her frustrations. “This is the toughest period I have ever experienced as a Nigerian”. She lamented. ” My kids couldn’t even feed properly as we have to manage garri last night. Now we are here all day and still could not get cash. My hard-earned money! This government has turned us into slaves in our own country”. She cried.

According to the Naijapopstar correspondent, there were long queues at UBA and Union Banks in Gbagi market and Iwo Road respectively.

It was also noted that customers were only allowed to withdraw a maximum of five thousand naira, especially in UBA banks.
