Due in great part to what the community has evolved into as a result of banditry, we no longer know who to trust. - Kukah

The country’s instability must be addressed, according to Rev. Fr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese.

At a conference on Thursday, June 22, to commemorate the ordination of Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Stephen Ojapah on June 10, Kukah said that Nigerians now travel out of dread due to insecurity.

The Catholic Bishop also said that the country can’t develop without security. He said;

“Unless we have a sense of respect for one another is enshrine and we take the sense of community beyond the boundary of religion and begin to see ourselves and create some level of civility around ourselves, it will be difficult. This is where I think religious leaders have a role to play.

“Trust is becoming a scarce commodity as we no longer know who to trust largely because of what the society has become as a result of banditry.”
